KANDIS

Registered Veterinary Technician

Kandis is an RVT who started tech school in 2017, and has been working in the field since 2018. She graduated and passed her VTNE in 2019 and she has been with VWP since February 2026.

She has a HUGE interest in behavioral medicine. The spicier the patients the better; especially our feline friends! She has numerous continuing education credits related to behavior, and she is a certified Cat Friendly veterinary professional. She plans on extending her behavioral knowledge and would love to become Fear Free certified and become a Certified Training Professional through the Karen Pryor Academy.

There are so many things she enjoys about her job. She loves working with the reactive or stressed behavior patients because she sees it as a challenge. She takes pride in feeling like she truly makes a difference in calming them down and making the vet as least scary as she can. She also really enjoys talking to and educating clients.

She has always had a passion for animals since she was a little girl. Like everyone, she had phases where she said she wanted to be different things when she grew up. At one point in her life, she wanted to be a lawyer because she was good at arguing, but it always came back to saying she was going to be a Veterinarian. She actually remembers doing little "home remedies" on her pets, like creating homemade splints with ace wraps and popsicle sticks on her cats when she thought they had hurt their paw...she doesn't recommend doing this at home! She didn't know what a veterinary technician or assistant was until she was in her early 20s. When she found out what they were and what the different roles entailed, she planned on becoming a technician and working through vet school that way. Now, years later, she LOVES being the nurse. She couldn't imagine doing anything different.

Outside of work, you can usually find her at home hanging with her husband and their pets. She and her husband have been together for nearly a decade and have been married for 3 and ½ years. They have two cats together, Tyrion (a domestic long hair) and Thumbs (a tortoise shell), and a pitbull puppy mix named Pilot. She loves spending time with her family and friends and she is always down for a good game night! A fun fact (or two) about her is that she and her dad share a birthday, and Christmas is her absolute favorite holiday. Those two coincide, as her birthday is actually two days after Christmas!

Her favorite animal is a panda. She and her husband went to the National Smithsonian Zoo in Washington, D.C. to see the pandas in 2023 and she cried.

Three words to describe Kandis would be bubbly, charismatic and sarcastic. She wants clients to know that this is her passion, and she loves each of her patients as if they were her own animal. When a client (or pet) is scared, nervous, or is worried about anything, she wants them to know that they can trust her and she will do whatever she can to make things as less stressful as possible. When a pet has to come in the back for any reason, she can promise that they are getting all the kisses and babytalk as she can muster (as long as that isn't making them more stressed).

She loves working in general practice because she gets to see a little bit of everything. She gets to follow pets through their entire lives - from starting vaccines as young puppies or kittens, to more palliative care towards the end of their lives, and everything in between. She loves being able to see things like acupuncture & rehab services, internal medicine cases (while pairing with our referral partners) and interesting surgery cases. She feels so blessed and grateful that she gets to live out her dream every day and she thanks God every day for that.
