SHELBY P

Veterinary Assistant

Shelby has been passionate about animals from a young age, and that passion has grown into a career dedicated to providing compassionate care to both patients and their owners. She began her journey at OPSR in 2019 and has been working in the veterinary field since 2020.

While Shelby has always enjoyed working with small animals, her experience working with Standardbreds at the racetrack quickly sparked a particular interest in large animal medicine. Those early experiences with racehorses confirmed her desire to become part of a large animal team, with equine medicine becoming one of her favorite areas of practice. Her background working with racehorses has also allowed her to develop a unique connection with many of her equine patients and clients.

One of the most rewarding aspects of her work is building relationships—not only with the animals in her care, but also with the people who love them. Shelby strives to create a sense of trust with every patient and client she meets and takes pride in providing dependable, compassionate care.

Outside of work, Shelby and her husband live on their own “little funny farm,” where they share their home with an ever-growing collection of animals: three dogs, six cats, two cows, two donkeys, and five goats. Among her favorite farm residents is Harriette, her hairless calf—affectionately known as “Harriette the Hairless Heifer.”

When she’s not caring for patients or tending to the farm, Shelby enjoys spending time at the racetrack, relaxing with her animals, and making memories with family and friends.

Shelby would describe herself in three words: dedicated, compassionate, and reliable.
